Not long now

56 days until the big man comes down the chimney…and he will come, nothing stops him.

We’ve had notification from our courier company that they are expecting to be very busy in the run up to Christmas so we are advising everybody to shop early, time is ticking on. We will do as much as we can to make sure your orders get to you on time but I think a lot of disruption will be inevitable.

Remember; if you know we have something you’d like to purchase, you’re local and can’t get to us for whatever reason contact us via email or phone and we’ll do our best to get it to you. These are strange times and we all need to do what we can to help.

You can find us on Facebook, Instagram: @lolawoodsam and of course in store.

Have a great weekend, stay safe and be kind.

When you’re smilin’

When you’re smilin’, when you’re smilin’

It looks like the movement is gaining momentum. Apparently the Leicester council has started putting up the lights in the City centre and one family has already got their full decorations, including outdoor lighting display, up and running.

The whole world smiles with you

Okay it may be a tad soon but I’m liking the thinking behind it. We need something to cheer us up and there can be nothing better than Christmas. From next week we shall be drip feeding our Christmas stock into store.

When you’re laughin’, when you’re laughin’

As a taster here’s a little snapshot of items available online.

The sun comes shinin’ through

Smile, be kind, stay safe, have a great weekend.

Looking forward

How is everyone today? Fed up with Covid? Boris? Trump? Climate change? I’d like to make a suggestion; stop, smile and breathe. Only fourteen weeks until Christmas.

Of course before then we have halloween, not for me thanks we’ve had enough doom, gloom and death this year. Then there’s Bonfire night or Guy Fawkes….Celebrating the capture of a man and his friends and foiling the plot to blow up Parliament. I need to think about that one for a bit longer.

No, for me it’s time to start planning for the big man’s arrival. In the next couple of weeks I shall be adding a Christmas section onto the website and some goodies will be making their way into  store. Time to start looking forward and being positive, Christmas will not be cancelled!! Start buying now to prolong the excitement.

Have a great weekend, stay safe, be kind and smile.

Gift ideas

Christmas shopping is going to be a bit weird this year but instead of boosting Amazon’s profits you could ask friends and family for a voucher for a local business that may be struggling. Book shops, restaurants, salons, cinemas, craft stores, arts venues whatever you’re in to, without your help they may not be here next year. We do have gift vouchers for £5, £10 and £25 or multiples of so if you are struggling for ideas get in touch and we’ll be more than happy sort something for you.

A group retailers in Uppingham have got together to come up with ideas to try and keep the High Street buoyant. We agree that the best place to start is with you the customer; what do you think of our town and what changes do you think it would benefit from. To do this a survey has been put together and can be found here:

Please take a couple of minutes to have a look and complete.

Keep an eye on Facebook and Instagram-@lolawoodsam for gift ideas over the coming weeks.

Have a good weekend, stay safe.

Mask on mask off.

The latest restrictions are going to have a major impact on us all and like it or not we are all in this together. The pleasurable experience of wandering around shops and browsing for ideas has now become an endless repetition of sanitising and mask on mask off. Unsurprisingly and understandably more and more people are reluctant to head out to the high street, something we have noticed in this last week with the dramatic drop in foot fall in what is only a matter of days since the announcement.

We appreciate how everyone is feeling so over the next few weeks we shall be posting a number of ideas on Instagram (@lolawoodsam) and Facebook. If you see anything you like contact us directly and we shall do our upmost to get it out to you. You can’t come to us so we’ll try to come to you.

We’ll get through this if we all stick together.

Stay safe, keep smiling, have a great weekend.

Happy Day

27 years ago today we swapped vows and promised to spend the rest of our lives together. Nothing’s changed we’re still together, we still make joint decisions and we’re still best friends. What we didn’t know then or even had any plans for was to be where we are today. It just goes to show; you never know what the future holds.

Slowly but surely our Christmas stock is growing. Not as exactly as we planned with one of our main suppliers succumbing to the pressures of Covid but we can promise that everything we get will be well worth it. We will be updating the website with the new products over the next few weeks and as ever everything will be posted on instagram: @lolawoodsam and Facebook.

Keep smiling, keep safe, have a great weekend.

Updates 11th September 2020

Opening Hours

Happily we can let everyone know we have now decided to re-open on Wednesdays. Same hours, 10am till 4pm, just more chance for you wonderful people to pick up some great items.

According to the Prime Minister and his buddies Christmas is likely to be cancelled…not for us Boris! We may not be open for the annual late night shopping that Uppingham holds so brilliantly but we will be stocking some gorgeous seasonal products for everyone to enjoy. My advice is to start the Christmas shopping early, that way it’ll give us all something positive to look forward to and give us a respite from the doom and gloom.

Keep safe, keep smiling, have a great weekend.

That went quick

I know we had a bank holiday last week but anyone else think it went quick? Apparently there has been talks around dropping the working week to four days…I think we’ll wait and see on that one.

Lots of things happening for us behind the scenes. We’re continuing with the current opening times for now but as we get closer to the visit of the jolly man in red we will review again. Hopefully we will be partnering with new suppliers shortly so look out for fresh and unique items to compliment our established brands (the sweary pencils have now been re-stocked).

As ever you can find us on Facebook, on instagram-@lolawoodsam, or we’ll be happy to see you in store.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Updates 28th August 2020

Goodbye Summer.

As it was International Dog Day last Wednesday I thought I’d introduce you to the hardest working member of our team…Woody.

As you can see, he’s always alert and ready for the next customer.

The weather is telling us that Autumn is fast approaching, can you believe woolly jumpers, wellies and big coats will soon be the norm? Where did the Sun go?  Don’t let the colder days put you off though, our high streets need you and we will always offer a warm haven for everyone.

Remember you can find us on Facebook, on Instagram @lolawoodsam or come and see us in store.

Have a great Bank Holiday weekend.

Updates 21st August 2020

I think we all agree that nowadays we’d be lost without technology. We found this out last Saturday. We needed to update the software on the till on Friday so, with a little help, we managed to do the deed and as we left that evening all was well…or so we thought. As we open Saturday as normal the till decides that it was going to shut down. A few choice words later we try to call the tech wizards, A great idea I hear you cry, oh no, the tech wizard don’t work at weekends!! A few more choice words and the decision to call it a day and leave it until Monday was made. To all those that wanted to pop in and see us last Saturday we can only apologise but it was out of our hands. we are back up and running and will be open as usual tomorrow.

We are always keen to replenish and update our stock so our search for new products and suppliers continues. However Covid is having an effect on the manufacture and shipping from abroad so it is becoming slightly more difficult but we’re confident we can continue to offer unique and quirky items. Remember you can also find us on instagram – @lolawoodsam, and Facebook and of course pop in and see us in the shop.

Have a great weekend.

Updates 14th August 2020

Well what a strange week that was. I think the weather is as confused as we all are; one minute hotter than Spain and the next thunderstorms and floods – incredible. Personally I think it’s Mother Nature reminding us all who the real boss is.

We’ve reviewed our opening times and Covid precautions this week and we would like to thank all our customers that have come into the shop for not only sticking by us and supporting us throughout these strange times but also for adhering to the guidelines we’ve set in place to keep us all safe. We have decided to keep the opening times as they are for now: Thursday -Saturday 10am-4pm but we will review them again in a couple of weeks.

Tomorrow sees the 75th anniversary of VJ Day. Just after noon on August 15th, 1945 Japan announced the acceptance of the Potsdam Declaration which in effect ended WW2. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that fought for the freedoms we all enjoy today.

Feedback, Coasters and Keyrings

Big thank you to those of you that have requested putting the character keyring and coasters on the website. It has now been done for the ones we have remaining and we are hoping to replenish soon.

We are always looking to improve what we do so any feedback you give us is always welcome. If there is anything you think we need to change on the website or think we need to add etc, please let us know. If it’s possible then we’ll do our best to implement it.

Remember you can contact us via the website, on instagram @lolawoodsam, on Facebook or call in to the shop.

It’s been a hot one today, I hope you all remembered your sunscreen. Have a good weekend hope to see you soon.

Friends will be friends.

Did you know yesterday was national friends day? Me neither. Along with our families our friends can be some of the most important people in our lives, your oldest friends will know more about you than you’ll want to remember and the memories you share will be unique to you. Your friends are the ones you turn to in the most difficult times and the ones you want to share the best times with so why not have a day to celebrate those fantastic bonds?

But you know what, with all the crazy things going on in the world right now our friends are more important than ever so why wait for a specific day? Any time you want to show them how much they mean to you, let us help.  check out our online range or contact us through Facebook or Instagram @lolawoodsam or of course pop into the shop…maybe bring a friend.

Updates 24th July 2020

Normal…for now

Today sees it become mandatory to wear masks in shops, is this the new normal? For me if it keeps us all safe when popping to the shops then I’m all for it. Our high streets need a boost so if it gives you confidence to get out and visit us you’ll be most welcome.

With time on my hands I have had the chance to appreciate the garden and its visitors, however small, a lot more. To help our little friends along we have found a fantastic gifts in a tin range that cover flower pressing to building your own insect house, and, we’re really excited about our range of  lovely books  that you can read to your little ones and then plant the pages. There are 120 seeds on every page with full instructions on how to go about it. What a great idea to encourage the next generation to get out there.

Not online yet but if you’re interested take a look at our Instagram or Facebook pages or pop into the shop.

Updates 17th July 2020

Sun’s out…

Don’t look now but I think I saw the Sun!

Perfect time to be turning to the garden and adding those finishing touches. We are always looking for new product ranges and we think we may have found one to engage the younger generation and maybe find the next Alan Titchmarsh. Hopefully we’ll have them in store in the next week or two so please pop in and see for yourself.

Remember from 24th July it will be compulsory to wear a face covering in all shops. We will be complying with the advice so please don’t take it out on us when we ask you to wear a mask.

Alternatively if you’re not comfortable shopping dressed as a highwayman we are always contactable through the website, on Facebook or Instagram and happy to help.

Stay safe, we hope to see you soon.
